Strawberry Protein Cheesecake Smoothie

Disguised as a delicious dessert, this healthy milkshake has practically no added sugar and is a great source of protein for kids who are reluctant to drink milk. Plus, it’s decadent enough that you’ll want to make it for yourself after the kids go to bed, too.

As I am always on the quest to find a healthy snack that is protein packed and easy to make, after literally months of experimenting, I finally hit the jackpot: strawberry cheesecake milkshakes. I took inspiration from the fact that my kids both like smoothies, and decided to up the milk content, market it as a milkshake (which sounds like dessert), and they were sold…especially when I sprinkled graham cracker crumbs on top. You can make this with a variety of flavors, even chocolate if you use cocoa nibs and a bit of sweetener...and of course PUMPKIN will be an easy

Fall fix!

It’s a super simple recipe that comes together in five minutes, uses only a handful of easy-to-find ingredients, and has practically no added sugar. All the sweetness comes from the natural fructose in the strawberries or whatever fruit you add.

If you are intrigued, wait until you hear this next part. There is only 1/2 scoop (16g) protein powder in this recipe, I thought it would be a nice change to switch things up! The protein source comes from cottage cheese!!! Now, hear me out if you are not a fan, you absolutely do not taste this protein rich ingredient! One cup packs in 20+ grams of protein, you can't go wrong!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cottage cheese (2% works best)

  • 1/2 scoop (16g) protein powder

  • 1 cup Ice cubes

  • 1/2 cup almond milk

  • 1/2 cup strawberries

Directions

Put everything in a blender and blend until smooth and creamy, top with optional toppings if desired. If you prefer your shake sweeter you can add 1 packet of sweetener of choice. Enjoy!

Cottage cheese is a casein milk product which means it digests slower than whey or soy protein. Consuming casein at night has many benefits, This shake would be a great bedtime snack as long as berries are being used and limited to 1/2 cup due to sugar content. This can also be enjoyed during the day!
